Step-By-Step Guide for removing, cleaning and reinstalling your brewing unit
Required Setup:
Before you start, you'll need the following supplies:
- Franke cleaning brush kit with red handles, and Franke long handled paint brush
Getting Started
The brewing unit is responsible for brewing the ground coffee and requires regular cleaning. Franke recommend the brewing unit be removed and cleaned daily during the Clean Cycle. Users must be careful when reinstalling to ensure the orientation is correct, and the brewing unit is locked.
To clean the brewing unit, open the coffee machine door and remove the grounds container.
The brewing unit sits directly inside the machine as shown. You’ll notice the red locking mechanism is in the locked (vertical) position.
To remove the brewing unit, first unlock the red locking mechanism by turning the lever counter-clockwise until it is in the horizontal position.
The red lever is now unlocked and in the horizontal position.
Now gently grip the brewing unit on each side as shown, it can be helpful to use two hands to guide it out.
Gently pull the top of the brewing unit down towards you in a tilting motion. If the brewing unit is not moving, do not force it or you may damage it.
With the brewing unit lowered to this angle, you will now be able to gently pull the unit up and out of its housing towards you.
Once removed, rinse the brewing unit under warm running water to remove any coffee residue.
Over time, spent coffee grinds can build up on the piston head, affecting the flow of water and coffee based drinks.
To clean the spent grinds, use a scrubbing brush to thoroughly brush the piston head, removing any build up.
Scrub inside the piston chamber as well to remove any loose grounds, and rinse with warm water until the water runs clear.
To reinsert the brewing unit, start by making sure the white T-piece is facing toward the machine in the direction as shown.
Seat the base of the brewing unit back in its housing first, and then tilt the unit forwards, gently pushing away from you to fix in place. There shouldn’t be any resistance.
Once the brewing unit is back in its housing, don’t forget to lock it in by turning the red locking mechanism clockwise until it is back in the vertical position.
Once locked, replace the grounds container and close the machine door. The machine will run a short start-up/calibration process and then be ready to use.
