Start the cleaning process

During the cleaning process, the coffee machine will guide you through with instructional steps on screen. We've included more detail here to get you started if it's your first time.

Start by opening the door of the coffee machine. To do this, you'll need to remove the grounds container (pictured below) by pulling it out towards you. Set aside.

IMG_1282

Now, reach inside the door to the left, and press the red lever to open.

IMG_1283

Once the door is open, reinsert the grounds container (leaving the door open) and follow the steps on screen to clean the brewing unit on the inside of the machine.

IMG_1260

Cleaning the brewing unit

Start by cleaning the top of the brewing unit with a brush (either the red handled Franke brushes or long handled paint brush supplied at install).

IMG_1285

Now, using the long handled brush, brush the brewing unit and piston to remove any loose coffee grounds which have built up.

IMG_1287

Once complete, select NEXT. Follow the prompt on screen to remove the grounds container again. If you need to empty it, carefully remove the silver tray attachment (it's magnetic) and set aside, before empting the coffee grounds into the bin. You can also rinse the container and tray with warm soapy water if necessary. Reassemble and set aside.

IMG_1263

Brush out any loose grounds inside the machine and wipe with a damp cloth if necessary.

IMG_1289

Reinsert the grounds container into the machine.

IMG_1284

Select NEXT. The machine will now prompt you to remove, empty and refill the water tank.

IMG_1264

Removing and refilling the water tank

To remove the water tank, start by lifting the lid.

IMG_1291

Lift the silver handle to the upright position, and then use the handle to life the tank upwards to remove. Be careful not to drop the tank. If it's full of water, you may require two hands.

IMG_1293

Empty the water tank, clean if necessary and then refill with water. Do not fill past the MAX line displayed on the tank.

IMG_5490

To reinstall the water tank, gently lower it onto the hooks to fix into place. It should sit flush against the coffee machine.

IMG_1295

Lower the handle and close the lid.

IMG_1297

Cleaning the mixer system

The machine will now prompt you to clean the mixer system, which is responsible for producing your powdered beverages.

IMG_1265

To remove the mixer chamber, firstly disconnect the powder dosing hose by pulling it towards you. For new machines, it may be a little stiff, just wiggle it until it loosens.

IMG_1299

IMG_1300

The mixer chamber is locked in place by the red locking mechanism at the base of the chamber. To remove it, you'll need to first unlock it by pushing the red locking handle to the right to the OPEN position.

IMG_1301

Once unlocked, remove the mixer chamber by pulling it towards you, away from the door.

IMG_1302

The mixer chamber on on the A300 MS EC is made up of three pieces. Disassemble and clean with warm water if necessary (powder buildup, etc.) You can then carefully reassemble, aligning each piece to make sure it fits together, and then set aside while you clean the agitator.

IMG_1305

Clean the agitator with the red handled cleaning brush to remove any powder buildup if necessary.

IMG_1303 Once clean, reassemble the mixer system:

  • firstly, reinstall the mixer chamber;
  • secondly, lock the red handle; and
  • lastly, reconnect the powder dosing hose.

Once complete, the setup should look like the below.

If you have cannot reassemble for any reason or have trouble closing the door after reassembling, please call us on1800-975-133 to assist, otherwise you may risk a service issue if not reinstalled correctly.

Cleaning the spout

The screen will now prompt you to remove the spout and spout insert to clean and then reassemble. Follow the steps outlined in the following images before moving on.

IMG_1267

To remove the spout, firstly remove the spout cover by gently pulling it off and away from the machine. Set aside.

IMG_1309

IMG_1311

The spout is highlighted in red below. To remove it, unplug it from it's coupling by pulling down.

IMG_1317

IMG_1312

The spout insert is highlighted in red below. To remove it, unplug it from it's coupling by pulling down in the same way as before.

IMG_1315

Clean both pieces with warm water, and then reassemble in reverse order. Start by reinserting the spout insert, and then the spout, and then finally replacing the spout cover which should click back into place.

Cleaning the drip grid, drip tray, and waste tray

Now it's time to clean the drip grid and drip tray. Start by removing the waste tray by gently pulling it out towards you. Be careful as it may be full of water.

IMG_1307

You may get an error on screen, that's okay - it's the coffee machine sensor recognising that the drip tray is no longer in place. Continue with emptying and cleaning if necessary.

IMG_1308 2

Once you've removed the waste tray, empty any waste into the sink by pouring it out towards the triangle in the back left corner.

IMG_1319

If necessary, you can disassemble and clean each part if there is a build of coffee or milk solids. Simply wipe and rinse with warm soapy water if required, and then reassemble.

IMG_1318

There is a sensor at the back of the tray. Ensure this is dry when reinserting, so the machine recognises the tray is back in place.

IMG_1343

Once complete, reinsert the waste tray, then insert one Franke cleaning tablet into the dedicated chute above the machine.

IMG_1320

The screen will now prompt you to remove the milk container. Start by opening the cooling unit or fridge door, then unplug the milk suction hose, and pull the milk container out towards you gently. Remove the milk suction hose and set aside.

If necessary, rinse the milk container with warm water. If the container is clean, simply set aside in your kitchen fridge for the remainder of the clean cycle.

IMG_1321

IMG_1322

Now insert the clear cleaning jug into the fridge with the milk suction hose plugged in on the nipple as pictured below.

IMG_1325

The machine will run a short rinse and empty the contents into the cleaning jug once complete.

IMG_1327

Empty the liquid from the cleaning jug into the sink. The screen will now prompt you to dose the required amount of Franke cleaning solution ("Reiniger fur Milchsysteme") .

  • If the cleaning solution bottle is already open, skip to "Dosing the cleaning solution"
  • If the cleaning solution bottle is not yet open, follow the steps to open it

Opening the cleaning solution

Unscrew the plastic cap on the left hand side of the bottle. There will be a red  and white seal on the bottle.

IMG_1330

Remove the seal completely by peeling it off. Discard. The bottle will now be open.

IMG_1331

Dosing the cleaning solution

You will require 50ml of cleaning solution for the clean cycle. To dose the correct amount, gently squeeze the bottle, until the chamber in the top fills to the 50ml line as shown below.

IMG_1333

Now pour the 50ml into the empty cleaning jug. If you've accidentally dosed more, only use the 50ml required.

IMG_1336

Now insert the cleaning jug and milk suction hose into the fridge, making sure the hose is attached to the nipple. The milk suction hose will be automatically rinsed during the clean cycle.

IMG_1339

IMG_1340

Automatic Clean Cycle (12-15 mins)

The machine will now commence the automatic clean cycle. It takes approximately 12-15 minutes. Place the collecting container underneath the spout during the clean cycle, to collect any waste water dispensed during the clean cycle.

You can leave the machine unattended during this time.

During the clean cycle, the machine generates hot water and steam as it cleans the system, be careful around the machine as there is a risk of scalding.

IMG_5483

Once the clean cycle is complete, the screen will prompt you with an E676 Cleaning Complete message on screen. Follow the steps below to return to the main menu.

IMG_1342

  • Remove the collecting container and empty the contents into the sink. Store away.
  • Open the cooling unit/fridge door and remove the cleaning container. Store away.
  • Reinsert the milk suction hose into the milk container, and then reinsert into the cooling unit/fridge
  • Press Confirm on screen, and the machine will run milk through the lines, and then return to the main menu ready for use
